NCBA Hall of Fame Personal Biographies

R. David Allen

Inducted March 30,2008

Pioneering:

David Allen has been a member of NCBA for 32 years. His membership is probably the second longest running of current living members. His record of "Pioneering", "Service" and "Bowhunting Accomplishments" are outstanding. David Allen has made himself "available" for "Service" to NCBA at every opportunity. He has always volunteered to "get involved" without hesitation for as long as I have known him. He has worked the NCBA booth at many shows and events. If he can be there, he is always one of the "first" to volunteer to help. He is an official NCBA, P&Y and Compton's measurer. I remember David meeting me in Concord, NC, and we drove together to Ramon Bell's home in Greensboro in 1982 to take a class from Ramon to become an official measurer for NCBA.

I first met David Allen at a NCBA event in 1977 or 1978, and was introduced to him by Dennis Allman. I was impressed by his enthusiasm and desire to do his part to help NCBA. This enthusiasm is still as strong today as it was then. David has always been a positive supporter of NCBA, and has worked to help make NCBA the organization it is today. He is a state Bowhunter Education and Hunter Safety Instructor also. He has been a leader in this field of teaching hunter safety and has influenced many people about the positive aspects of bowhunting, especially young people. His "Service" record with NCBA alone should qualify him for inclusion in the NCBA Hall of Fame. His record is listed below:

Service:

  • 1982-2007 Official NCBA Measurer
  • 1992-2007 Official P&Y Measurer (& Compton's Measurer since 2006)
  • 1988-1989 Membership Chairman
  • 1990-1993 President
  • 1991-1992 Convention/Banquet Chairman
  • 1994-1996 Past President
  • 2004-2007 Records Chairman
  • 2005 Outstanding Service Award
  • 2007 - Vice Records Chairman and Associate Council Member

Bowhunting Accomplishments: David's Bowhunting Accomplishments are as impressive as his service record. He has taken the following animals with bow and arrow:

  • Whitetail Deer: 60+
  • Black Bear: 2
  • Quebec-Lab Caribou: 2
  • Quebec-Lab Caribou: 2
  • Mule Deer: 1
  • Javelina: 4
  • Wild Boar (Hogs): 20
  • Red Fox: 2
  • Red Fox: 2
  • Gray Fox: 1
  • Pheasant: 10+-
  • Ptarmigan: 10+-
  • Quail: 20+-
  • Squirrel: 40+-
  • Grouse: 20+-
  • Rabbit: 30+-
  • Groundhog: 15+-
  • Bowfishing: 40 Carp; 3 Gar; 2 Bowfin

I am sure this list of bowhunting accomplishments is not complete, as David doesn't brag about his bowhunting successes.

He is as dedicated as any person I know to promoting our sport and working tirelessly to promote and expand NCBA's programs and ideals. So, it is with great pleasure and honor that I submit the name of Robert David Allen for consideration for admission to the NCBA Bowhunter Hall of Fame.

David was inducted March 30,2008 at 22ND Annual NCBA Banquet in Raleigh, NC
